Never swim immediately after dosing

Balance pH and Alkalinity — The Chemistry Foundation

Stabilised vs. unstabilised shock

Calcium hypochlorite (cal-hypo) is the most common unstabilised shock — powerful and affordable. Dichlor granules function as a stabilised shock. For smaller inflatable pools, liquid chlorine (6% sodium hypochlorite, similar to pool-grade bleach) is convenient and leaves no residue.

Run Filtration and Circulate the Water

Scrub the Walls and Floor — Remove the Biofilm

Algae doesn’t float freely in the water all the time. It attaches to surfaces — specifically the walls, floor, and any pool accessories like steps or toys. This surface growth is called a biofilm, and once it establishes itself, it becomes exponentially harder to kill. The biofilm’s outer layer can actually shield the algae underneath from sanitiser contact.
