We believe privacy policies should be readable by actual humans. This one explains what data SwimmingAdvisor collects, why we collect it, who we share it with (spoiler: almost no one), and what rights you have. No confusing jargon. No hidden clauses. If something isn’t clear, email us and we’ll explain it.

By using SwimmingAdvisor.com, you agree to the practices described on this page. If you don’t agree, that’s okay — but please don’t use the site.

At a Glance — The Short Version

We know most people don’t read privacy policies. Here’s the summary:

📊

We Collect Very Little

No accounts, no logins, no personal profiles. The only data we get is what you choose to send us.

💰

We Don’t Sell Your Data

We have never sold user data and never will. It’s not our business model.

🍪

Minimal Cookies

We use a tiny number of cookies for analytics and affiliate tracking. No creepy ad retargeting.

📧

Email Is Optional

You only give us your email if you contact us. We reply and move on — no newsletter unless you explicitly ask.

🔒

No Account System

We don’t have user accounts, so there’s no password to leak and no profile to hack.

🌍

You’re In Control

You can ask us to delete any data we have about you at any time. We’ll do it promptly.

What Information We Collect

Information You Voluntarily Provide

When you contact us through our contact form or by email, you may provide:

  • Your name — optional; you can use a pseudonym
  • Your email address — required so we can reply to you
  • The content of your message — including any pool details, product questions, or feedback you choose to share

We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to a mailing list, send you marketing emails, or share your contact details with anyone else. Once the conversation is complete, your email and message content remain in our inbox archive purely for reference — you can ask us to delete them at any time.

Information Collected Automatically

Like virtually every website, we collect some basic technical data automatically when you visit:

  • IP address — anonymized where possible
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type (desktop, tablet, mobile)
  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Referring website (how you found us)
  • General geographic region (country or city level — never precise location)

This is standard website analytics. None of it identifies you personally. We use it to understand which guides are helpful, where our readers come from, and how to improve the site.

What we do NOT collect: We don’t collect your precise location, your browsing history on other sites, your demographic details, or any sensitive personal information. We don’t have user accounts, so there are no passwords, no stored preferences, and no personal profiles.

How We Use Your Information

Type of Data How We Use It Legal Basis
Contact form submissions To reply to your question or feedback Your consent (you chose to write to us)
Email correspondence To communicate with you about your inquiry Your consent and legitimate interest in responding
Analytics data (anonymized) To improve site content and user experience Legitimate interest in operating and improving the site
Affiliate click data To track purchases made through our links (for commission purposes) Legitimate interest in sustaining the site financially

That’s it. We don’t use your data for any purpose not listed above. We don’t build user profiles, we don’t run targeted advertising campaigns, and we don’t engage in any form of automated decision-making or profiling.

Cookies & Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We use them sparingly. Here’s exactly what’s running:

Essential Cookies

We don’t use any strictly necessary cookies. The site functions fully without them — no login system, no shopping cart, no session management.

Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how readers use the site. These cookies collect anonymized data about page views, time on site, and traffic sources. Google Analytics does not identify individual users to us. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely using Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Affiliate Tracking Cookies

When you click an Amazon link on our site, Amazon places a cookie in your browser that lasts 24 hours. If you make a purchase during that window, we may earn a small commission. This cookie does not identify you to us — we only see aggregate reports showing that a purchase was made, not who made it.

How to Control Cookies

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Instructions for each browser:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and website data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Blocking cookies won’t break SwimmingAdvisor — the site will work fine. You just won’t be counted in our analytics (which is perfectly okay).

Affiliate Disclosure

SwimmingAdvisor.com participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

In practice, this means:

  • Some links on our site point to product pages on Amazon
  • If you click one of these links and make a purchase within 24 hours, we may earn a small commission — typically 1–4% of the purchase price
  • This commission comes at no additional cost to you
  • We do not see who made the purchase or any personally identifying details
  • The commission does not influence which products we recommend or how we rank them
Our commitment: We recommend products because we genuinely believe they’re the best option for our readers, not because of the commission rate. Many of our top picks earn us lower commissions than alternatives we chose not to recommend. Our testing and editorial process is completely independent of affiliate relationships.

Third-Party Services We Use

We rely on a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the site. Here’s who they are, what data they may access, and links to their privacy policies:

Service Purpose Data Shared Their Privacy Policy
Google Analytics Website traffic analysis Anonymized IP, pages visited, browser info Google Privacy Policy
Amazon Associates Affiliate link tracking Click data, purchase confirmation (anonymized) Amazon Privacy Notice
Web Hosting Provider Site hosting and delivery Server logs including IP addresses Contact us for current provider details

We do not use any advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, data brokers, or user profiling services. If this changes, we’ll update this policy and clearly announce it.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have specific legal rights regarding your personal data. We honor these rights for all users regardless of location:

Right to Access

You can ask us what personal data we hold about you. Since we don’t have user accounts, this typically means any email correspondence we’ve had with you. We’ll provide copies within 30 days of your request.

Right to Deletion

You can ask us to delete any personal data we have about you — including past email conversations. We’ll comply within 30 days. Email us at privacy@swimmingadvisor.com with your request.

Right to Object

You can object to our processing of your personal data. Since our processing is minimal (essentially just replying to emails and running anonymized analytics), the practical impact is straightforward: we’ll stop any processing related to you upon request.

Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you believe we’ve mishandled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We’d also appreciate the chance to make it right first — please contact us.

California Residents (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your CCPA rights, email privacy@swimmingadvisor.com with the subject line “CCPA Request.”

European Economic Area Residents (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, EEA residents have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and data portability. To exercise your GDPR rights, email privacy@swimmingadvisor.com with the subject line “GDPR Request.” We will respond within 30 days as required by the regulation.

No verification hoops: We don’t require notarized documents or excessive identity verification for data requests. Since we hold so little data, a simple email from the address we have on file is usually sufficient. If we need additional confirmation, we’ll tell you why clearly.

Children’s Privacy

SwimmingAdvisor is a general-audience website. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data (for example, by emailing us), please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

Our content is family-friendly and often relates to children’s swimming pools, but we do not target our site at children, nor do we solicit information from them.

How We Protect Your Data

We take reasonable precautions to protect the limited data we hold:

  • HTTPS encryption — all traffic to and from SwimmingAdvisor is encrypted in transit using TLS
  • Minimal data collection — the best security is not holding unnecessary data in the first place
  • Access control — only team members who need access to email correspondence can view it
  • No stored passwords or accounts — there’s no database of user credentials to breach
  • Regular software updates — we keep our hosting platform and any plugins updated to patch known vulnerabilities

No website can guarantee absolute security. If a data breach occurs involving your personal information, we will notify you promptly and take immediate steps to contain it. Given the tiny amount of data we hold, the risk and impact of any breach are correspondingly small.

How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Email correspondence: Indefinitely, unless you request deletion. We keep past emails for reference so we can provide continuity if you write to us again. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
  • Analytics data: Google Analytics retains data according to our settings — currently 26 months for aggregated data. Individual session data is anonymized after 14 months.
  • Contact form submissions: Stored in our email system. Same retention policy as email correspondence.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if we add a new third-party service or if privacy regulations change. When we do:

  • We’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page
  • If the changes are significant, we’ll post a notice on the site for at least 30 days
  • We won’t retroactively apply material changes to data collected under a previous policy without your consent

This policy was last reviewed and updated on June 26, 2026.
